Becoming a driving instructor is one of those jobs which keep you in control. You are your own boss, you can work the hours you wish. It is for people looking for not only full time work but also for people that have restricted availability (part time). Work as often or as little as you like. Instructors generally have high job satisfaction knowing that you are providing life skills for learners.

You will receive quality training from highly qualified DSA ordit registered tutor. The flexibility of the training is very important to us, we can suit your time-frame whether it is evening and weekends or 7 days a week, we can accommodate you.
All training is done in the car training at your preferred location within the south east, so you have no excuse to get learning..

The training is in three parts:

  • Theory/Hazard perception tests (Part 1)
  • Practical driving tests (Part 2)
  • Teaching exam (Part 3)

Theory/Hazard perception tests
Once you have passed this test you will have two years to complete Part 2 and 3

Practical Driving test
The practical driving test will last for 60 minutes. The aim of this test will provide you with the skills required for learner to pass their driving test. You will learn all the maneuvers and you will be assessed on various types of roads including motorway driving.

Teaching exam
40 hours of training will enable you to finally start teaching your new students (potential driving instructor PDI). Once you have gained your PDI badge you then have 6 months to pass the part 3 teaching exam.

How long will it take to qualify?
On average it takes an instructor 16 - 20 week to become a Potential Driving Instructor (PDI). From becoming a PDI you then have 6 months to take and pass your final teaching exam.

What is a PDI?
A Potential Driving Instructor (pink badge holder) is someone who has completed parts 1 and 2 and has also completed 40 hours in car training to deal with various levels of instruction. Once you become a PDI you will can start teaching students for reward.

What happens next?
Once you have completed the following exam with the 6 month period, you are awarded the Approved Driving Instructor status (ADI). At this point you are fully qualified.

Where will the training take place?
Training takes place in the car at a convenient location to you.

What reading materials will be provided and what else do I need?
All books and materials will be provided.

What payment options are available?
You can pay in advance for the whole course or it can be paid in 2 or 3 payments.
